Gateway Historical Timeline 1976 - Present


    1976  - Property acquired at 245 Brent Lane to build a 25,000 sq. ft. building with 800 seat auditorium, 3,000 sq. ft. fellowship hall, a four-room nursery suite, teacher’s workroom, library, conference room, and 13 classrooms. Bill Goree serves as preaching minister.
    1977  - The Gateway Christian Nursery School was started, with Beverly Noah as director.
    1979  - The first Southeastern Soul Saving Workshop is held on the University of West Florida campus. Gateway, along with 19 other congregations from Baton Rouge to Panama City sponsored the regional event.
    1981  - Eddie Levick begins serving as Gateway’s pulpit minister.
    1984  - Gateway participates in the Church of Christ exhibit at the World’s Fair in New Orleans.
    1985  - Gateway begins a small group ministry with 10 “House Groups".
    1985  - Gateway becomes involved with the World Bible School Program in Guyana, South America.
    1986  - Ladies’ Bible Class begins meeting on Tuesday mornings.
    1990  - Buddy Bell begins serving as Gateway’s pulpit minister.
    1992  - Gateway begins working in connection with Humanitarian Relief International. Mona Mobley directs the work, organizing medicines, medical supplies, equipment, and food to be sent to Gorlovka, Ukraine.
    1993  - Gateway hosts the first Gateway Get-Away, a weekend of spiritual renewal for college students from across the country. The event is held at Pensacola Beach.
    1993  - Support begins for mission work in Guyana, South America.
    1994  - Dr. Carolyn Barnes becomes director for the Gateway Christian Nursery School.
    1994  - The building of Gateway’s Family Life Center is completed. This addition to our facilities was intended for extra classroom space as well as a gymnasium and kitchen for fellowship gatherings.
    1997  - Chris Seidman begins serving as Gateway’s pulpit minister.
    1999  - The Gateway Christian Nursery School is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
    2002  - Harold Jones comes to serve as interim pulpit minister.
    2002  - The Gateway Chrisian Nursery School changes its name to Gateway Christian Preschool.
    2003  - Danny Dodd begins serving as Gateway’s pulpit minister.
    2005  - Gateway continues improvement to facilities, including the addition of an expanded foyer and new building front.
    2005  - Gateway begins supporting mission work in Vilnius, Lithuania.
    2012  - Derek Hancock serves as interim pulpit minister.
    2012  - Jeremy Kughn begins serving as Gateway’s pulpit minister.
    2012  - Jeremy Swindle begins serving as Gateway’s worship and spiritual formation minister.
