Life is worship. Life is worship. Yeah we get that, but quite often we treat Sunday as if it is the only worship we do. In this message, Jeremy Kughn uses what is often right in front of us that we cannot see, and challenges us to live a life that worships.
Do you remember that old VBS song, "Read your Bible, Pray every day"? There is immense value in that simple little song. When our life is going off the rails we wonder why it is and why we can't cope. Could the solution be as simple as the tune?
In a beautiful scene that illustrates the type of spirit God desires Jesus uses children in an object lesson. There is a certain innocence that children have in their approach to God. As worshippers we should bring that same attitude with us. Similarly Jesus calls Simon Peter to follow him and Simon leaves everything. God loves innocence and trust.
Continuing on the theme of Jesus' focus he carries a burden beyond our imagination. In this lesson we will seek to understand how the conflict of being the Son of God and a man didn't lessen the impact of his sacrifice. In fact, his focus magnified it.
In the ultimate showcase of humility Jesus enters Jerusalem as the object of worship. His journey to the cross is undeterred by his level of focus to finish the task. Jesus continues to worship God by following through with His will rather than being swept up in the emotion of being worshiped by others.
How do you view Jesus? For some it is something out of a storybook, some view him almost rugged and some even view him as extremely fragile and weak. Luke gives us a glimpse of the nature of Jesus as he "sets his face" toward the place of his crucifixion. The word used to define this look is "resolute". Join us in this four week journey with Jesus to the cross and see if your own passion for Christ isn't enhanced in the journey.
We all know what the Bible says about pride. The truth is that it's almost like most of us are wired that way. How can we better our lives by maintaining humility when it is hard to do?
Decent isn't all that bad, but I wouldn't use it in place of a compliment. "Hey honey, how do I look?" asks the wife, "Ummmm... Decent?" replies the soon to be injured spouse. Oddly enough, many of us reach the point of being decent as a Christian and live satisfied with that result. God is clear that he desires a passionate follower. How do we live motivated to make it to this extreme?
There are two kinds of parents. Those who hover over their children and those who some would consider free range. Both sets of extremes run risks of creating a monster. In this sermon we will discover what the wisdom scriptures seem to implicate about both sets and seek to find balance between the two.
In the Balancing Act of life trying to find balance typically comes from trying to escape chaos. There are those who live in chaos, and we call them "high maintenance". There are those who live in extreme organization, and we call them "control freaks". What does the bible have to say about each extreme and are there positives from either position? Each extreme could stand to learn something from the other.
